A warehouse owner has been fined after a roof contractor’s employee fell approximately 30ft through a glass skylight.
The employee had been employed to over-clad the existing roof of the warehouse when he fell and sustained life-changing injuries to his pelvis, arm, knee, and face to which he has undergone extensive surgery since.
It was found that the warehouse had failed to undertake adequate checks on both the contractor’s documentation and the controlled measures and planning in place before the work started. Consequently, the company pleaded guilty to a breach of Regulation 4(1) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and was fined £96,000 and ordered to pay costs of £36,919.75.
