A £1.4m fine has been handed to Network Rail following a crush incident back in 2018.
Safety failings onsite resulted in a worker being crushed. The crush involved a conveyor of a 25 tonne ‘Superboss’ ballast distributor and a Kubota people carrier.
The worker suffered life changing injuries to both his legs and spine. To put things in to perspective he lost 12cm of bone to his left leg and 4cm to his right leg, both tendons and nerves were irreparable leaving the worker with a permanent disability.
On top of this a second worker also suffered minor injuries in the same incident to his wrist and shoulder.
Following the conclusion of the investigation Network Rail were fined after pleading guilty to breaches under the Health Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
