Lack of Safe Systems of Work Leads to Life Changing Injuries for Employee
A machine operator has been left with life changing injuries after attempting to repair a box-making machine.
The workers hand was cut off at the wrist when he was caught in the chain-drive of the machine. After an 11 hour operation the hand was reattached however he has now been left with life long effects.
It turns out there was no safe system of work in place to ensure safe isolation and access for tasks such as maintenance
The packaging manufacturing company has been significantly fined after pleading guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
They were fined an eye watering sum of £115,000 and ordered to pay costs of £5,308.
