Having the correct lifting equipment (and accessories) is key to ensuring work can be carried out safely and effectively.
This month Will Jackson has been out on-site at our clients Peacock and Binnington’s at their Corringham site. It is fair to say that the devil is in the detail with some very good practices on show.
Many businesses are unaware (not P&B for that matter) of their responsibilities under LOLER. This places duties on people and companies who own, operate or have control over lifting equipment, so having the right equipment is imperative in the eyes of the HSE.
Even small equipment needs to be maintained which the team at P&B have done a cracking job on.
Key Points For Lifting Equipment:
✅ All of their axle stands were all stored in a clean, dedicated area
✅ Each stand was equipped with the correct rated support pin
Something we regularly see in workshops is the wrong type of support pin being used (this ranges from screwdrivers to nails to bolts).
The wrong type, or wrong capacity pin being used, could lead a catastrophic incident such as the stand failing and the machine being supported falling or rolling off the stand.
